Flash Mob by NSS Volunteers to highlight the Importance of Drug-Free Society
The NSS volunteers have been conducting several activities to spread awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco and the importance of building a drug-free society.
The Family Health Centre, Velur, in collaboration with VelurGramaPanchayath, organized a program titled “Tobacco-Free Educational Institution” at Government High School, Thayyur. On 13 January 2025. The program was attended by several prominent dignitaries who shared their valuable insights on the importance of promoting a tobacco-free society. Mr Jaleel Adhoor (Thrissur District Panchayath Member) and Mr. T. R. Shoby (Velur Panchayath President) were among the key guests. Mr. Farooq (Health Inspector, Velur) and Mr. Rajesh (Health Inspector, Velur) also contributed to the event by emphasizing the public health impact of tobacco and drug use.
A key highlight of the program was the flash mob performed by NSS volunteers, which left a lasting impact on the audience. The performance was visually striking and emotionally engaging, effectively conveying its message in a creative and memorable manner.
Twenty NSS volunteers participated in the flash mob, which was meticulously choreographed to deliver a strong social message. The volunteers used a combination of dynamic dance moves, synchronized formations, and symbolic gestures to emphasize the dangers of tobacco consumption and drug abuse. Through their energetic and expressive act, the volunteers captured the attention of the audience, sparking conversations about the need for collective action to eliminate the use of tobacco and drugs in educational institutions.
The audience, which included students, teachers, and community members, was deeply moved by the flash mob. Many attendees applauded the creativity and passion of the volunteers, recognizing the power of art in driving social change. The flash mob served as a powerful medium to engage the community and inspire them to join the fight against tobacco and drug use.
The flash mob was organized and executed under the leadership of the NSS Volunteer Secretaries, including Aswathy E S (S5 CSE), Mrithyunjay R (S5 EEE), Nistal K Paul (S5 ME), Devika Mothilal (S5 ECE), Obadh Jose (S5 ME), Ardra Shanmughan (S5 EEE), Aruna R Menon (S5 CSE) and Adarsh N A (S5 ME). Their efforts in coordinating rehearsals, ensuring precise execution, and delivering a meaningful message were commendable.
The faculty coordinators, including Mr Rajesh S K (NSS Program Officer, Asso Prof, EEE Dept), Mr Ranjith E R ((NSS Program Officer, Asst Prof, ME Dept), Ms. Delmy David V (NSS Program Officer, Asst Prof, CSE Dept) and Ms.Anu Maria Antony (NSS Program Officer, Asst Prof, CE Dept) provided invaluable guidance and motivation to the volunteers. Their support was instrumental in refining the performance and ensuring its success.
The program, culminating in the flash mob, was an exemplary initiative that combined art, community participation, and education to promote a healthier and more responsible society. The declaration of Government High School, Thayyur, as a Tobacco-Free Institution was further reinforced by the impactful message delivered through the NSS flash mob. This event stands as a testament to the power of youth and creativity in driving social awareness and change.
