VSEC Head delivers session on ‘The Math Behind Sky Highways’

Vidya Social Empowerment Center (VSEC), an initiative of the Vidya International Charitable Trust, spearheads programs aimed at empowering individuals and uplifting communities through education, awareness, and engagement.

Dr. Siju K. C (Head, VSEC and Asso. Prof, AS Dept) presented an enlightening online session titled “The Math Behind Sky Highways” for Kovilagath Foundation scholars on  28 June 2025 . Using flight routes as examples, she demonstrated how mathematical principles guide aircraft navigation and ensure safety. The session covered altitude separation systems, distance calculations between planes, and how pilots use angles to navigate. Participants learned how geometry brings order to airspace through interactive examples. Dr. Siju emphasized how geometric concepts structure the vastness of the sky, noting that “even the sky follows perfect geometry.” The talk gave scholars a renewed appreciation for the real-world applications of mathematics in connecting our world through flight.
