Dr. Siju K. C (Head, VSEC and Asso. Prof, AS Dept) delivered an engaging online session titled “Why Math Decides What You Watch Next” for the scholars of the Kovilagath Foundation on 05 July 2025.
The presentation unveiled the mathematical algorithms behind YouTube’s recommendation system, explaining concepts such as Term Frequency, Inverse Document Frequency, video ranking metrics, retention rates, and click-through rates (CTR). Dr. Siju also highlighted how personalization and clustering techniques tailor content to individual preferences, and how YouTube combats low-quality content using dislike ratios.
