NSS Volunteers celebrate Onam with residents of Asha Bhavan (Women) Old Age Home

With an aim to spread joy and festive cheer among the elderly residents while providing NSS volunteers with an opportunity to engage in meaningful community service, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Vidya Academy of Science & Technology celebrated Onam with the inmates of Asha Bhavan (Women) Old Age Home, Ramavarmapuram on 03 September 2025.

A group of 20 NSS volunteers actively participated in the celebration. The event commenced with the creation of a traditional pookalam, symbolizing unity and prosperity. This was followed by cultural performances including songs, dances, and skits, which brought smiles and a festive atmosphere to the residents. Volunteers also spent quality time with the inmates, engaging in conversations, listening to their stories, and sharing moments of companionship, making the celebration personal and heartfelt.

The successful execution of the program was made possible through the enthusiastic leadership of NSS KTU Care Coordinators: P D Aravind (S5 ME), Anusree (S5 EEE), Anjana V S (S5 ECE), Albin Saji (S5 ECE), Amrutha P (S5 ECE), Abhinav K M (S5 CSE), Harikrishnan K S (S5 CSE), and Devika T S (S5 ECE). The program was coordinated under the guidance of Mr. Ranjith E R  (NSS Programme Officer and Asst Prof, ME Dept) and Ms. Delmy David V  (NSS Programme Officer and Asst Prof, CSE Dept).

The Onam celebration brought happiness, warmth, and a sense of belonging to the residents. The inmates expressed their heartfelt joy at being part of the festivities, while the volunteers gained valuable experiences of empathy, service, and cultural bonding. The event truly reflected the spirit of Onam – togetherness, compassion, and harmony.
