Energy Cell Flagship Program -“Just a Minute” (JAM) Competition by NSS

To promote critical thinking, communication skills, and awareness about renewable energy sources among students, the NSS Units of Vidya Academy of Science and Technology, as part of the Energy Cell flagship initiatives, organized an intellectually stimulating “Just a Minute” (JAM) competition on 12 September 2025. The event revolved around the topic “Which is better for India — Solar Energy, Wind Energy, or Other?”

The primary objective of the competition was to encourage students to explore and express their views on India’s renewable energy future. The event highlighted the importance of sustainable energy alternatives

Each participant was allotted one minute to speak spontaneously on the topic, without hesitation, repetition, or deviation. The competition provided an excellent platform for students to articulate their insights on renewable energy and its role in India’s sustainable development.

Participants presented diverse perspectives — discussing the immense potential of solar energy in a tropical nation like India, the reliability of wind energy in coastal regions, and the emerging promise of hybrid and alternative energy systems. Their speeches reflected not only awareness but also a deep sense of responsibility toward a cleaner and greener future.

After an impressive round of speeches, the winners were declared as follows:

Prize Name  Dept
First Prize Pavithra M G S3 CSE
Second Prize Minnu Maria C A S3 CE

The smooth and efficient execution of the program was ensured through the active coordination of the NSS Energy Cell Unit Coordinators Alanteena C A (S5, EEE Dept), Arjun C N (S5, EEE Dept), Bhadra M U (S5, ECE Dept ), Ajay M S (S5, EEE Dept), Adith C A (S5, ECE Dept), Devika K B (S5, ECE Dept), Anamika Sebastian (S5, ECE Dept) and Godwin C Baiju (S5, ME Dept).

The event was conducted under the guidance of Ms. Delmy David V (NSS Programme Officer and Asst Prof, CSE Dept) and Ms. Anu Maria Antony (NSS Programme Officer and Asst Prof, CE Dept)  whose encouragement and leadership contributed greatly to the success of the program.

The “Just a Minute” competition on “Which is better for India — Solar Energy, Wind Energy, or Other?” proved to be a thought-provoking, engaging, and well-coordinated initiative. It successfully inspired students to think innovatively about renewable energy and reaffirmed their commitment to a sustainable, energy-efficient future.

The Editorial Team of News & Events joins the entire Vidya fraternity in extending hearty congratulations to Pavithra and  Minnu on this remarkable feat that engages young minds in meaningful discussions on the comparative advantages of solar, wind, and other renewable energy options !!!
