“BUILDING JAVA APPS – Swing & JDBC” – Online Workshop by CSE Dept

To enhance students’ practical skills in Java programming, the Dept of Computer Science and Engineering organized an online workshop titled “BUILDING JAVA APPS – Swing & JDBC.” The workshop was conducted online via the ZOOM platform on 04 October 2025, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Participants joined the session through the provided meeting link and actively took part in discussions and coding exercises.

The primary objective of the workshop was to provide participants with hands-on experience in:

  • Designing graphical user interfaces (GUI) using Java Swing.

  • Connecting Java applications to databases using JDBC.

  • Understanding the Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture in desktop applications.

Mr. Shanavas R. S (Associate Engineer, Litmus7, Kochi, 2000–24 Batch,CSE Dept) served as the expert speaker for the session. His professional insights and industry experience offered participants valuable exposure to real-world Java application development practices.

While the workshop was primarily intended for S3 CSE students, it was also open to all students interested in learning Java desktop development. The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from learners eager to strengthen their programming skills.

By the end of the workshop, participants were able to:

  • Design and implement a functional Java desktop application.

  • Integrate database operations using JDBC.

  • Understand the workflow of desktop application development in a professional setting.

  • Gain confidence to build and deploy their own Java-based projects.

The workshop on “Building Java Apps – Swing & JDBC” was a resounding success. It provided participants with practical knowledge and strengthened their confidence in developing real-world Java applications.
