CE Dept & VIBE Team conduct hands-on session titled “Girder Builder: From Curiosity to Creation – Discovering Engineering Pathways,”

The Department of Civil Engineering helps school students to explore the fundamentals of structural engineering in a fun, creative, and experiential manner by organizing various programs and hands-on activities.

With an aim to introduce students to the fundamentals of structural engineering through an engaging and creative activity, the Dept of CE , in association with VIBE (Vidya Initiative for Better Engineering) team, organized a hands-on experiential program titled “Girder Builder: From Curiosity to Creation – Discovering Engineering Pathways” for Plus Two students of SN Trust, Nattika. 

The session was handled by Dr. Abhilasha P. S. (HoD CE Dept), Ms. Anu Maria Antony (Asst Prof, CE Dept) and Mr. Kiran Babu A. R. (Asst Prof, CE Dept).The program commenced with a brief introduction by Mr. Kiran Babu, followed by the hands-on activity. Students were divided into groups, and each group was provided with ice cream sticks (popsicles) and gum to construct a girder model. Model structures were also projected on the screen to provide guidance and design ideas.Students collaborated in teams, sharing innovative ideas and applying basic engineering principles in their creations. After the construction phase, the load-carrying capacity of the modeled girders was evaluated by Ms. Anu Maria Antony, which generated great enthusiasm and curiosity among the students.

Following the activity, Dr. Abhilasha P. S. delivered an inspiring session on the prospects and scope of engineering, motivating students to explore various opportunities in the field.Students actively shared their feedback and excitement, expressing keen interest in the experience. The program concluded with the distribution of sweets to all participants and teams.

Overall, the session proved to be a highly enriching experience, combining creativity, teamwork, and practical learning. More than 45 students enthusiastically participated in the program, making it a memorable and impactful event.
