Orientation session on Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2026
With an aim to introduce students to Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2026 and to create awareness about global open-source opportunities, the Fossers Club of Vidya Academy of Science & Technology, Thrissur, successfully conducted an online orientation session titled “Getting Started with GSoC 2026” on 28 December 2025.
The session was handled by Nivin P Louis (S6,AIML Dept) and aimed at introducing students to global open-source opportunities through Google Summer of Code. It emphasized the importance of open-source contributions over conventional projects, explained the structure and benefits of GSoC, and addressed common myths associated with the program.
Participants were also guided on essential skills such as Git version control, effective communication with mentors, and proposal writing. A total of 33 students from various branches attended the session, which proved to be informative and motivating for aspiring open-source contributors.
