Vidya faculty member shares expertise as a resource person on “Achieving Carbon Neutrality Strategies for Institutions”

Faculty members from Vidya Academy of Science and Technology created awareness among engineers, faculty members and students about the importance of achieving carbon neutrality in institutions by attending the programme as resource persons. Through their expert sessions, they provided practical strategies for reducing carbon footprints, emphasizing sustainable energy practices and long-term environmental planning to promote institutional sustainability.

Dr. Sooraj K Prabha (Prof, ME Dept) has made significant academic contributions in the field of carbon emissions, including authoring a chapter titled “Carbon Emissions – Recent Trends and Shift in Policies in India” in the book “An In-Depth Look at Carbon Emissions” edited by Dr. K. J. Sreekanth and published by NOVA Science Publishers, New York, in November 2021.

The Institution of Engineers (India) (IE(I)), Trichur Local Centre organized an invited talk on “Achieving Carbon Neutrality Strategies for Institutions” on 24 January 2026 at IE(I)) Hall, Thrissur. The program witnessed the participation of corporate members of IE(I), faculty members, and students.

The session was delivered by Dr. Sooraj K Prabha, who spoke on practical and strategic approaches that institutions can adopt to achieve carbon neutrality and contribute to sustainable development goals. In his address, he elaborated on the concept and importance of carbon neutrality, methods for institutional carbon footprint assessment, renewable energy integration in campuses, energy efficiency improvement strategies, waste management and sustainable resource utilization as well as policy frameworks and long-term sustainability planning.

The invited talk was highly informative and timely, addressing one of the most pressing global concerns—climate change and sustainability—and inspired participants to initiate structured carbon reduction strategies within their respective institutions. The program was coordinated under the leadership of Er. S. Rathish,FIE (Chairman) and Dr. C. Justine Jose,FIE (Secretary). As a token of appreciation, a memento was presented to Dr. Sooraj by Er. S. Rathish in recognition of his valuable insights and significant contribution to the success of the invited talk.
