The Department of Mechanical Engineering provides students with valuable insights into innovation protection and the commercialization of research outcomes
A technical session on the “Basics of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Patents” was conducted on 05 March 2026 for the final year Mechanical Engineering students of Vidya . The session was handled by Mr. Jinto A.J (Adjunct Faculty,ME Dept)
During the session, Mr. Jinto introduced the fundamental concepts of Intellectual Property Rights, highlighting the importance of protecting innovations and creative ideas in engineering and technology. He explained various forms of IPR, with particular focus on patents, their significance and the process involved in patent filing.
The resource person also discussed how patents help inventors safeguard their technological developments and encourage innovation in industries and academic research. Practical examples related to engineering inventions were presented to help students understand the relevance of IPR in real-world applications.
The final year Mechanical Engineering students actively participated in the session and engaged in discussions regarding patentability, documentation, and the role of intellectual property in modern engineering practices.
