EEE faculty member publishes research paper in IEEE Xplore

Vidya faculty members continually expand their expertise by engaging in productive collaborations with researchers and academicians around the world.
The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering , proudly announces that Ms. Neenu Thomas (Asst. Prof – Seln. Grade, EEE Dept), has successfully published a research paper in IEEE Xplore, one of the world’s most prestigious digital libraries for engineering and technology research.

The paper titled “Voltage Control Strategy in Single Phase Grid Tied Systems Based on D-STATCOM PV Inverter” was presented at the 2025 IEEE First International Conference on Innovations in Engineering and Next-Generation Technologies for Sustainability (ICINVENTS) held on 07–08 November 2025 in Coimbatore, India. The paper was officially indexed in IEEE Xplore on 03 March 2026.

The research focuses on improving the performance and stability of single-phase grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. As solar energy becomes increasingly important for sustainable power generation, integrating PV systems into the electrical grid presents challenges such as voltage fluctuations and power quality issues. The proposed study introduces a D-STATCOM based control strategy integrated with a solar inverter to enhance voltage stability and grid synchronization.

The research employs a Proportional Resonant (PR) controller for accurate current tracking and improved power injection into the grid. Through MATLAB/Simulink simulations and experimental analysis, the proposed system demonstrates effective voltage regulation and reliable operation even under varying load conditions. The results also show that the injected current Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) remains below 5%, ensuring improved power quality and system stability in grid-connected applications.

This publication highlights the department’s ongoing commitment to research excellence, renewable energy innovation, and sustainable power technologies. The achievement also reflects the active research culture at VAST, encouraging faculty members to contribute to global technological advancements.
