Merit Day 2026 by CSE Dept

Every year, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering organizes an event to recognize and celebrate students’ achievements in academics, placements, and extracurricular activities.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering organized Merit Day 2026 on 01 April 2026 at Pranavam Auditorium, VAST, from 2:20 PM to 3:30 PM. The event was conducted with the objective of recognizing and celebrating the diverse achievements of students in academics, placements, and various co-curricular and extracurricular activities. The program witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members, creating a positive and motivating atmosphere.

The event aimed to appreciate academic excellence, encourage healthy competition, and inspire students to achieve higher goals. By highlighting student accomplishments, the department seeks to promote a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and professional growth. It also served as a platform to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry requirements by emphasizing skill development and practical exposure.

The program commenced with a welcome address by  Abhinav M (student), who highlighted the importance of recognizing student achievements. He emphasized that such appreciation motivates students, boosts confidence, and creates a supportive academic environment within the department. Dr. Sajay K R (HoD I/c, CSE Dept), delivered inaugural address and formally inaugurated the event. In his speech, he encouraged students to focus on continuous learning, improve technical skills, and actively participate in academic and professional activities such as certifications and internships to enhance career opportunities.

 Mentorship and Knowledge Sharing

• Peer Expert Talk:
  A major highlight of the event was the Peer Expert Talk, where senior students shared their academic experiences, placement preparation strategies, and approaches to technical skill development. Their insights provided practical guidance to help juniors understand effective methods to achieve success.
• Technical Guidance:
  Senior students offered valuable guidance on preparing for NPTEL certifications and GATE examinations. They shared study plans and strategies for managing time effectively alongside academic responsibilities.
• Career Planning:
  This session acted as a roadmap for students, emphasizing the importance of goal setting, consistency, and the development of both technical expertise and soft skills.

Trophy Distribution Ceremony

The Trophy Distribution Ceremony was a key segment of the event, where students were recognized for their outstanding achievements across multiple domains:

• Academic Merit:
  Awards were presented to semester toppers from S1 to S7 for their exceptional academic performance and consistency.
• Placement Success:
  S8 students who secured placements were honoured for their readiness to enter the professional world.
• Competitive Excellence:
  Students were recognized for achievements in GATE examinations and participation in prestigious competitions such as the Smart India Hackathon and Red Hat India Challenge.
• Innovation:
  Students involved in innovative projects, research activities, and startup initiatives were acknowledged, encouraging creativity and the practical application of knowledge.

 Departmental Honors and Extracurriculars

• Special Awards:
  Prestigious titles such as “Gem of CSE” and “Pride of CSE” were awarded to students who demonstrated excellence in academics, leadership, and ovaestheticerall contribution to the department.
• Student Leadership:
  The contributions of student association members and office bearers were appreciated for their active involvement in organizing and supporting departmental activities throughout the academic year.
• Holistic Achievements:
  Achievements in arts and sports, including football, cricket, yoga, and athletics were also celebrated. These recognitions highlight the department’s commitment to the overall development of students, encouraging a balance between academics and extracurricular activities.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to all faculty members, student organizers, and participants for their valuable contributions. Merit Day 2026 served as an inspiring platform to celebrate student achievements and motivate others to strive for excellence. The program reinforced the importance of dedication, continuous learning, and active participation in both academic and co-curricular activities for achieving future success.
