Household Travel Survey by Vidya NSS Units
As per the directions of the NSS Cell, the Vidya NSS Unit undertook a Household Travel Survey assigned by the National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (NATPAC) under the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment. The survey aimed to collect data on travel behaviour and mobility patterns of households to support transportation planning and research activities in Kerala.
The survey area allotted to the unit was Punnayur Panchayath, and the activity was carried out with the active participation of NSS volunteers.
The primary objective of the Household Travel Survey was to gather information about the daily travel patterns of households in Punnayur Panchayath. This included understanding how people travel for purposes such as work, education, shopping and other activities. The survey also focused on identifying the modes of transport used, travel distances and frequency of travel. The data collected will contribute to transportation research and planning initiatives conducted by NATPAC.
The Household Travel Survey was conducted in Punnayur Panchayath as assigned by National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (NATPAC). The survey was carried out in two phases, with Phase 1 conducted on 14 February 2026 and Phase 2 on 21 February 2026.A total of 30 NSS volunteers actively participated in the activity, successfully surveying approximately 200 households.They were organized into teams and assigned different areas within Punnayur Panchayath to ensure comprehensive coverage. The volunteers demonstrated dedication and responsibility while interacting with residents and collecting the required information.
The activity was executed smoothly and efficiently under the enthusiastic leadership of the NSS Unit Coordinators, Adhithya Sahadevan (S6, EEE Dept) and P. D. Aravind Krishna (S6, ME Dept). The programme was effectively coordinated under the guidance of Mr Ranjith E R (NSS Program Officer, Asst Prof, ME Dept) and Ms. Delmy David V (NSS Program Officer, Asst Prof, CSE Dept).
The survey activity resulted in the successful collection of travel-related data from approximately 200 households in Punnayur Panchayath. This data will contribute to ongoing transportation research and planning studies conducted by NATPAC.
