ASK BETTER, BUILD SMARTER: An Introduction to Prompt Engineering for future Civil Engineers”

Alumni Interaction Session acts as an effective medium to connect students with industry professionals and experienced alumni.

The Department of Civil Engineering makes efforts to introduce students to the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence and Prompt Engineering and to create awareness about how AI-powered tools can support future civil engineers in design, planning, communication, innovation, and smart problem-solving.

The Department of Civil Engineering, Vidya Academy of Science and Technology, in association with ISTE VAST Chapter, organized an online session titled “ASK BETTER, BUILD SMARTER: An Introduction to Prompt Engineering for Future Civil Engineers” on 18 May 2026 from 7.00 PM to 8.30 PM through Google Meet.

The programme commenced with a prayer by Ms. Yamini Vijayan (S6, CE Dept). The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Abhilasha P. S. (Prof, HoD, CE Dept). Dr. Anjali P. Sasidharan (Asso Prof, CE Dept) introduced the resource person.

The session was handled by Ms. Sneha Mohan (Specialist – Data Science, LTI Mindtree Limited, 2015–19 Batch, CE Dept)  She delivered an informative and interactive session on Artificial Intelligence and Prompt Engineering, highlighting how these emerging technologies can support future civil engineers in design, planning, innovation, communication and smart problem-solving. The session also included practical demonstrations on the effective use of AI tools through proper prompting techniques.

The programme witnessed active participation from around 50 participants, including Plus One, Plus Two, Diploma, and B.Tech students. Participants actively interacted with the resource person by asking questions and sharing their perspectives on the use of AI tools in engineering education and professional practice. The interactive discussion session made the programme more engaging and helped students gain a deeper understanding of prompt engineering and its practical applications.

The participants expressed highly positive feedback regarding the session and appreciated the clarity of presentation, relevance of the topic, and practical demonstrations shared by the resource person. Many students also expressed interest in learning more about Artificial Intelligence and its applications in Civil Engineering and other emerging technologies.

The session proved to be highly beneficial in creating awareness among students about the growing importance of AI and prompt engineering in technical education and professional practice. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Chithira Ajeeth (Asst Prof, CE Dept)

The Editorial Team of  News & Events joins the entire Vidya fraternity in extending heartiest appreciations to Ms. Sneha on  on the successful conduct of a meaningful and enriching session that demonstrates how effective interaction with AI tools can enhance problem-solving, design thinking, research, documentation and smart decision-making in civil engineering applications !!!
