To provide a multidisciplinary platform for faculty members, researchers, and students to explore the emerging applications of Artificial Intelligence in Civil Engineering, the department of Civil Engineering, in association with IE(I) and ISTE Faculty Chapter, VAST, successfully organized a Six-Day Online Faculty Development Programme (FDP) titled “Artificial Intelligence in Civil Engineering: Multidisciplinary Applications with Introductory Perspectives on Indian Knowledge Systems” during 11-16 May 2026. The programme was conducted under the convenorship of Dr. Abhilasha P. S. (Prof, HoD, CE Dept). Ms. Ponsy Paul( Asst Prof- Sr Grade,CE Dept) and Ms. Seetha Pisharikkel (Asst Prof, CE Dept) served as Programme Coordinators. The FDP aimed to introduce participants to emerging applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Civil Engineering and highlight the relevance of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) in promoting sustainable engineering practices. It witnessed enthusiastic participation from academicians, researchers, industry professionals, faculty members and students from various institutions. The inaugural session on 11 May 2026 was delivered by Prof. K. V. Jayakumar (IIT Dharwad) on “The Next Frontier in Civil Engineering: Powered by Artificial Intelligence.” The first day also featured a session by Mr. Praveen Ramachandran Nair (VAAVA SimuLABS Pvt. Ltd.) on drone technology integrated with AI for modern applications. Mr. Suresh Lal (Executive Director, VICT) and Dr. Sunitha C (Principal) offered felicitations during the event. Subsequent sessions included expert talks by eminent academicians and industry professionals from IITs, NITs, and leading organizations, covering diverse areas such as structural engineering, water resources, transportation systems, climate change, construction technology and sustainable practices integrated with Indian Knowledge Systems. The concluding day featured a session on Sustainable Architecture through Vastu Shastra: An IKS Perspective by Dr. C. V. Lal (Retd., Government Engineering College, Thrissur) emphasizing traditional knowledge in sustainable design. The valedictory function was held on 16 May 2026 under the presidential address of Dr. Shalij P. R. (Academic Director, VICT). The FDP report was presented by the Convenor, Dr. Abhilasha.Felicitations were offered by Adv. P N Unnirajan IPS (Retd) (Director-Administration, VICT). Resource persons and participants appreciated the initiative and highlighted the multidisciplinary learning experience. The programme concluded successfully, reinforcing the importance of Artificial Intelligence and Indian Knowledge Systems in shaping the future of sustainable civil engineering.
