Central Library successfully organizes Hands-on Workshop on Seminar and Project Literature Search Using E-Journals

Through a series of hands-on sessions, the Vidya Central Library aimed to equip final-year B.Tech students with the knowledge and practical skills required to effectively search, access, evaluate, and utilize scholarly e-journals for seminar and project work through systematic literature review techniques.

The Central Library successfully organized a series of Hands-on Workshops on Seminar and Project Literature Search Using E-Journals for final-year B.Tech students from 09 July 2026 to 15 July 2026. The workshops were conducted in the respective department computer laboratories, enabling students to gain practical experience in accessing and utilizing scholarly research resources relevant to their seminar and project work.

The programme aimed to develop students’ information literacy skills by emphasizing the importance of conducting systematic literature reviews using authentic and high-quality research publications. Students were guided on the effective use of e-journals and digital library resources to identify reliable references for academic and research activities.

Led by Mr. Girish Kumar P. C. (Librarian), the sessions provided students with a comprehensive understanding of the differences between textbooks and research journals. He explained that textbooks primarily present fundamental concepts and established theories, whereas research journals disseminate the latest scientific discoveries, innovative methodologies, experimental findings, and emerging technological advancements. Emphasizing the significance of scholarly literature, he highlighted that research journals serve as indispensable resources for conducting quality seminar and project work, fostering research-oriented learning, and keeping pace with recent developments in the field.

To demonstrate practical literature-search techniques, students were presented with discipline-specific seminar and project topics from various engineering branches. They were shown how to formulate effective search strategies, select appropriate keywords, and retrieve relevant scholarly articles from digital databases. An interdisciplinary topic, “Application of AI in Cancer Treatment,” was used as a representative example to illustrate the process of identifying research literature across multiple subject domains.

The workshop benefited 513 final-year B.Tech students, who participated through eight dedicated hands-on sessions conducted separately for each class in their respective department computer laboratories.
