Literary & Debate Club marks the commencement of its activities with an impactful Awareness and Debate Programme under ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva Campaign’
The Literary & Debate Club of Vidya Academy of Science and Technology marked the beginning of its activities for the academic year 2026–2027 with a meaningful and thought-provoking gathering held on 31 July 2026 at the Conference Hall.
In keeping with its vision of nurturing confident communicators, critical thinkers, and socially responsible individuals, the club organized an engaging programmes as part of the Nasha Mukt Yuva Campaign. With the powerful theme, “Can Awareness Be the Strongest Weapon Against Drug Addiction?”, the event brought together students to reflect, question, and exchange ideas on one of the most pressing social challenges affecting today’s youth.
The session was presided over by Ms. Kalyani Vijayakumar (Asst Prof, CE Dept) and Ms. Surabhi M. S (Asst Librarian) who encouraged students to actively participate in the club’s activities and utilize the platform to enhance their analytical and public speaking skills.
The programme commenced with an interactive self-introduction session in which all participating students introduced themselves, shared their academic backgrounds, interests, career aspirations and expectations from the club. This activity created a friendly and inclusive atmosphere, enabling members to interact with one another and establish a strong foundation for future collaborative learning.
As part of the Nasha Mukt Yuva Campaign, a nationwide initiative promoting a drug-free society, the gathering included the administration of the National Pledge Against Substance Abuse. The pledge was led by the Student Coordinator, Aavani K. Shine(S7, CSE Dept) who encouraged members to embrace healthy lifestyles, make responsible decisions, and contribute towards building a substance-free campus and society. The pledge reinforced the values of self-discipline, social responsibility, and community awareness among the participants.
Following the pledge, the club organized an engaging and thought-provoking debate centered on the theme of the Nasha Mukt YuvaCampaign. Students enthusiastically participated in the discussion, presenting well-reasoned arguments, logical counterarguments, and diverse perspectives on the social, psychological, and economic impact of substance abuse. The debate provided an excellent platform for students to articulate their views confidently, listen respectfully to differing opinions, and strengthen their analytical and persuasive communication skills.
The session witnessed active participation from all members and was marked by vibrant discussions, mutual respect, and intellectual curiosity. The coordinators appreciated the enthusiasm displayed by the students and emphasized the importance of continuous participation in literary and debate activities to enhance both personal and professional competencies.
The inaugural gathering concluded successfully with positive feedback from the participants, who expressed their enthusiasm for future club activities, debates, discussions, and literary events.
