CE Dept organizes technical session in association with UltraTech Cement

The Department of Civil Engineering enhances students’ practical and technical understanding of modern construction materials, concrete technology, quality assessment and site-level testing practices by organising insightful technical sessions that familiarise them with contemporary industry standards and applications.

The Department  organised an insightful technical session in association with UltraTech Cement on 29 July 2026.

The session was led by Mr. Sivaprasad Appu T. A. (Territory Manager – Technical,UltraTech Cements) who provided valuable insights into the latest developments and applications in the construction industry. The programme was highly interactive, enabling students to connect theoretical concepts with real-world construction practices. The programme focused on strengthening students’ knowledge of contemporary construction materials and concrete technologies, while providing practical insights into quality assessment and field-level testing procedures.

Key Highlights of the Session

A major highlight of the session was the introduction to UltraTech’s Expert Testing Van (Mobile Concrete Laboratory), which facilitates on-site testing by qualified Civil Engineers. Students gained an understanding of fresh concrete evaluation techniques and the assessment of hardened concrete properties, including compressive strength.

The session also covered Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) manufacturing, with emphasis on the production and application of specialized concrete varieties, including corrosion-resistant, decorative and waterproof concrete.

Students were also introduced to various cement and construction products, including Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC), UltraTech Weather Plus and waterproofing solutions such as UltraTech Weather Pro WP+200, designed to provide protection against dampness and seepage.

The technical session provided students with valuable exposure to contemporary construction practices and industry-oriented quality control methods, thereby strengthening their practical and technical knowledge.

Dr. Abhilasha P. S. (Prof, HoD, CE Dept) provided valuable support and guidance in organizing and facilitating the programme.

The Editorial Team of News & Events joins the entire Vidya fraternity in extending heartiest appreciation to CE Dept on the successful conduct of  the session that familiarizes students with current practices in construction materials, concrete production, quality assessment and site testing  and  enhances their technical awareness and industry readiness !!!!
