| Aligning with the nation’s tribute on the 165th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya, National Engineers’ Day 2026 was observed on 15 September with a strong focus on smart, sustainable and technology-driven engineering solutions. |
| As part of the Engineers’ Day 2026 celebrations, the Literary and Debate Club of Vidya organised a Debate Competition on 18 September 2026 in fond remembrance of Er. K. R. Brahmadathan (Founder Executive Director, VICT). The competition was organised around the theme “Smart Engineering for a Sustainable Future through Innovation and Digitalization” and centred on the topic, “Is technology more important than human behavior in achieving sustainability?” The session provided students with a meaningful platform to examine the relationship between technological advancement, human responsibility, innovation, digitization, and sustainable development. |

| The programme commenced with an engaging interaction led by Ms. Kalyani Vijayakumar (Asst. Prof , CE Dept) and Ms. Surabhi M. S. (Asst Librarian). They highlighted the significance of Engineers’ Day and paid tribute to the visionary leadership and enduring contributions of Er. K. R. Brahmadathan. His commitment to engineering education and institutional development was presented as an inspiration for students to uphold the values of innovation, excellence, and social responsibility in their professional journeys. |

| A video presentation on the life sketches of Er. K. R. Brahmadathan was presented as part of the commemorative session. The presentation gave students a broad overview of his career, professional journey, and contributions to engineering education and society. It served as an enriching educational experience, helping the student community understand and appreciate his enduring legacy. |
| Following the video presentation,Ms. Shafna Nezrien (S7, AIML Dept) delivered a brief and insightful speech. She highlighted the significant contributions of Er. K. R. Brahmadathan to the engineering community and society and emphasised the lasting relevance of his professional values and service. Her remarks encouraged students to pursue their academic and professional journeys with commitment, innovation, and excellence. |
| Debate Competition |
The debate focused on the question of whether technology should be regarded as more important than human behaviour in achieving sustainability. Participants explored the topic from multiple perspectives, discussing the capabilities and limitations of technological solutions alongside the importance of individual choices, collective responsibility, policy, ethics and long-term behavioral change.The competition encouraged participants to formulate clear positions, respond to opposing arguments, and support their views through logical reasoning. The interactive format also created opportunities for students to listen critically, think on their feet and communicate ideas with clarity and confidence.
