A Placement Training Workshop titled “Engineer Your Success – A Preparatory Workshop” was organised by the TMA Student Chapter, Vidya Academy of Science and Technology on 18 September 2026. A total of 30 students from the Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programmes participated in the workshop.
The programme commenced at 10:15 AM with a warm welcome by Ms. Honey Mol P. K.(Co-ordinator, TMA Student Chapter, Asst Prof-Sr Grade, ECE Dept) who welcomed the distinguished resource person, faculty members, Placement Officer, TMA representatives and participating students.
The session was led by Er. George Paul (Former Executive Director, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited) who shared valuable insights and practical guidance on various aspects of placement preparation.
The workshop initially focused on resume preparation. Since the students had already prepared their resumes, the resource person reviewed the essential components of a professional resume and explained what should be included and what should be avoided. He emphasized the importance of clarity, relevance, accuracy, proper formatting and effective presentation of information. He also guided the students on how to present their academic projects and internship experiences effectively by highlighting the objectives, individual roles and responsibilities, technologies or skills used, outcomes and key learning experiences. The importance of including relevant extracurricular activities, achievements, certifications, technical and soft skills, and other significant accomplishments was also discussed.
The session then proceeded to Group Discussion (GD) preparation. Students were introduced to the importance of effective communication, confidence, active listening, teamwork, logical thinking, leadership, and the ability to express ideas clearly during a group discussion. Groups consisting of eight students each were formed, and the students participated in GD sessions on various topics. The remaining students observed and evaluated the performance of the participants. This arrangement provided every student with an opportunity to actively participate in group discussions and gain practical exposure to the GD process.
The final session focused on interview preparation. The resource person explained various aspects of attending an interview, including self-introduction, answering common and technical questions, appropriate body language, professional communication and strategies for handling challenging questions. A mock interview session was also conducted, providing students with an opportunity to experience a simulated interview environment and identify areas for further improvement.
The workshop was highly interactive and informative, providing students with practical knowledge, valuable guidance, and greater confidence to face the different stages of the placement process. The combination of resume preparation, group discussions, and mock interviews enabled the participants to gain a better understanding of the expectations and skills required during campus recruitment.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Paul Chakola (Placement Officer). He expressed sincere gratitude to the resource person, management, faculty members, TMA Student Chapter, coordinators, student volunteers and all the participants for their valuable contributions and active involvement in making the workshop a successful and meaningful event.
