CSE Dept organizes Workshop on “Data Science Projects: Industry Perspective & Practices”

With an aim to involve extracting information, analyzing it and putting it to use in the booming area of Data , the Dept of CSE organized a dynamic 3-day workshop during 05 – 07 February 2024 , titled “Data Science Projects: Industry Perspective & Practices.”

The inauguration session of the workshop commenced with a prayer. Dr Ramani Bhai ( HoD , CSE Dept) addressed the gathered attendees. Through her eloquent speech, she not only set the tone for the proceedings, but also demonstrated her pivotal role in organizing and orchestrating the event, ensuring its success. This was followed by a presidential speech delivered by the Dr. Saji C B (Principal), emphasizing the significance of the workshop. Mr. Shailesh Sivan (resource person from CUSAT) shared insights on the workshop’s theme. Ms. Thulasi Rajan (Asst Prof, CSE Dept, Coordinator) expressed gratitude in her vote of thanks. Much appreciation is owed to the diligent efforts of  Ms. Mithu Varghese (Asst Prof, CSE Dept) and Ms. Thulasi Rajan, (Asst Prof, CSE Dept)who  severed as coordinators of the workshop. Their meticulous planning and hard work truly made the workshop a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on all participants.

Day one of the workshop unfolded with an engaging and enlightening introductory session spearheaded by the knowledgeable duo, Mr Santhosh Kumar P (Asst Prof, Sacred Hearts College, Thevara) and Ms. Neethu C S (Research Scholar, CUSAT). The session comprehensively explored essential topics such as the methodologies for data exploration, analysis, and preparation, encompassing diverse data types including images and texts. Additionally, participants received a comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of machine learning and deep learning models, laying a robust foundation for the subsequent days of immersive learning and practical application.

Day two of the workshop was led by Dr. Shailesh Sivan, an eminent figure in the field, who guided participants through a rich tapestry of topics crucial for contemporary data science initiatives. The day began with a thorough exploration of data analysis and preparation, establishing a robust groundwork for forthcoming sessions. Attendees were subsequently introduced to core principles in deep learning and machine learning models, gaining valuable perspectives into avant-garde methodologies propelling advancements across various sectors. The journey extended to an examination of computer vision, illuminating its profound impact on industries spanning healthcare to autonomous vehicles.

On the final day of the workshop, participants delved into the intricate realm of Natural Language Processing (NLP), immersing themselves in a blend of theoretical insights and hands-on implementation. The culmination of the workshop featured an engaging practical session centered on leveraging HuggingFace, a prominent platform in the field, to execute data science projects effectively. Interwoven throughout the workshop were dynamic.
