Engineering Fest was conducted on 20 th February 2016, Saturday at Pranavam auditorium of VAST Thalakkottukara. The main objective of the Engineering Fest 2016 was to give a hands on experience to first year B Tech. Students coming under APJ AKTU to apply their Engineering, Technical knowledge in respective discipline and also their skills to develop working models and prototypes of various systems This was a first experience for VAST in conducting such an event specially for first year students. The Fest started with a prayer and was inaugurated by Dr. ( Prof) N Ramachandran, HoD of Mechanical Engineering Department, NIT Calicut. The welcome and presidential address was given by our Principal Dr Sudha Balagopalan. Felicitations given by Executive Director, Er. G Mohanachandran and Vice Principal, Dr. V N Krishnachandran. ED club convener, Prof. Swapana EVM briefly described the particulars of competitions connected to the programme which was organised by ED Club members. Dr. N Ramachandran was given a momento ( Ashtalakshmi deepam) as a symbol of love and remembrance by Er. G. Mohanachandran. The programme convener, Prof. Deepa Mohan delivered vote of thanks.
A theme-wise exhibition of models and prototypes was arranged by students in the auditorium. The themes
were namely:
1. Energy conservation
2. Make life easy and safe
3. Sustainable engineering
4. Engineering models
Cash prizes and certificates were arranged for students coming under first three positions in each theme. The cash prizes are Rs.1500, Rs.1000 and Rs. 500 respectively for first three positions which was sponsored by our Principal and HoDs of all disciplines including Applied Science Department.
The other competitions are i. Spark competition in which innovative ideas were submitted and presented by students using their engineering and technical knowledge together with their intellectual skills. Ii. Photographic technology: in which the participant must capture and process photographic and digital prints that depicit the recent science, engineering and technology theme. Iii. Transportation modeling and racing, in which participants must design and produce a scale model of a vehicle from the sustainable/ waste material in the onsite event with provided battery, wiring and mini motor. Cash Prizes ( Rs 1500, Rs 1000, Rs 500) and certicates were arranged for the first three positions of the winners.
Homely food counters of ED club members were the other speciality of this event. Also the refreshment ( juice) for staff and students was prepared by NSS volunteers. The organizers supplied them the items required and ED club students prepared and served juices on the day.
The whole day was filled with different events and it was filled with joy and happiness. The event was conducted with the full support and cooperation of Management, Principal, staff ( teaching and non-teaching)of all the departments, ED club members and NSS volunteers.
