In recognition of impactful voices and sharp spontaneity – a token of appreciation for Extempore Competition ‘HOPE’ Winners

In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Vidya Women Empowerment Cell (VWEC), in collaboration with Institution of Engineers (India) (IE(I),  organized an inspiring event under the theme “Empowering Voices & Accelerating Action”.

The program featured an Extempore Competition titled HOPE’ (Holding Outstanding Powerful Empowerment), centered on the topic “The Paradox of Representation: Equality in Words, Inequality in Action – The Ongoing Struggle for Equal Representation in Decision-Making Roles” The event aimed to provide a dynamic platform for students to articulate their perspectives on issues related to women empowerment, gender equality, and social responsibility.

The competition saw enthusiastic participation from students across various departments. The judges appreciated the eloquence, spontaneity and clarity of thought displayed by the participants.

Following the competition, VWEC organized a function on 20 March 2025 to recognize and honor students who had demonstrated excellence and proficiency in extempore competition ‘HOPE’

The event started with an appreciation note by Ms Nirmala Krishnan  (Convener, Vidya Women Empowerment Cell, Asst Prof, CE Dept). Ms Nirmala Krishnan  and  Ms Surabhi M S (Asst. Librarian) who served on the judging panel highlighted how the participants showcased incomparable articulation and powerful perspectives, effectively addressing the importance of accelerating gender equality efforts through their impactful speeches. 

Dr. Sunitha C (Principal) presented mementos and certificates to the winners (O Varada Vijay Menon (First Prize, S6, AIML Dept), Shafna Nezrien (Second Prize, S4, AIML Dept) and Aavani K Shine (Third Prize, S4, CSE Dept)) in recognition of their outstanding performances. Their thought-provoking contributions stood out among the participants. In appreciation of their enthusiastic involvement, all participants were also presented with gifts and certificates, reinforcing the inclusive and encouraging spirit of the event.

The event HOPE witnessed remarkable support not only from female participants but also from male allies, underscoring the importance of collective efforts toward gender equality. Certificates were awarded to Sinan Sulaiman (S8, ME Dept) and Nikhil Mukundan (S8, CSE Dept) in recognition of their valuable support to conduct the event.. Their efforts helped make the event inclusive, impactful, and a true reflection of shared responsibility in the empowerment of women. Dr. Sunitha C (Principal) presented gifts and certificates to Dhrishya Anil (S6, CSE Dept) and Sruthi Cinto T (S4, CE Dept), who played a key role in organizing and ensuring the smooth execution of the competition.

The event was organized by the dedicated members of VWEC: (Ms Nirmala Krishnan (Asst Prof, CE Dept),Ms Reeba (Lab Assistant, AS Dept), Ms. Salkala K. S. (Asst. Prof, MCA),Ms. Akhila R (Asst. Prof, EEE Dept),Ms. Linsa V U (Asst. Prof, AIML Dept), Ms Anju Vincent ( Asst. Prof, ECE Dept) and Ms Surabhi M S (Asst. Librarian)).Their active presence and collaborative efforts greatly contributed to the smooth coordination and overall success of the program.

The event successfully brought together the themes of empowerment, expression, and recognition, making it a memorable celebration of Women’s Day. It reinforced Vidya’s commitment to nurturing socially responsible, aware, and empowered individuals.
