CE Dept organizes session on ‘Careers that Build a Better Tomorrow’

With the aim of encouraging young minds to discover the wide-ranging and impactful career paths available in Civil Engineering, the Department of Civil Engineering at Vidya Academy of Science and Technology organized a special interactive session titled “Careers That Build a Better Tomorrow” on 02 July 2025. The session was conducted in online mode from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM with the objective of inspiring young minds to explore the diverse and impactful career opportunities in the field of Civil Engineering.

The program commenced with a soulful prayer by Ms. Yamini Vijayan (S5,CE Dept) setting a calm and focused tone for the evening. This was followed by a warm welcome address by Dr Abhilasha P.S (HoD, CE Dept)  who greeted the esteemed speakers and participants, emphasizing the importance of career guidance in shaping the future of aspiring engineers.

The session featured two distinguished speakers, Mr. Arun Vincent (2009–13, Batch,CE Dept) and Ms. Sreedevi Somadas (2009–13 Batch,CE Dept).They were introduced by Dr. Anjali P. Sasidharan (Asso Prof, CE Dept).

Through their insightful presentations, the speakers shed light on the broad career landscape in Civil Engineering, including opportunities in India and abroad, career growth trajectories, and salary prospects. Sharing their personal career experiences, they motivated students to dream big and pursue their goals with clarity and commitment.A key focus of their talk was the emerging role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Civil Engineering. They highlighted how AI is transforming various domains—Structural Engineering, Transportation, Construction Management, Environmental Engineering, and Geotechnical Engineering—by enhancing efficiency, precision, and intelligent decision-making in infrastructure development.

The speakers delivered a strong and timely message: the world today needs not just more civil engineers, but better ones. They emphasized that quality engineers are essential to building a quality nation, urging students to cultivate deep technical knowledge, problem-solving ability, and ethical values to truly make a difference. The session attracted quite a number of participants, including external attendees. Faculty members of the Department of Civil Engineering were also present in full support, reflecting the department’s collective commitment to student development and outreach.

The session concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Ms. Chithra M (Asst Prof, CE Dept) who expressed sincere appreciation to the guest speakers, participants, and organizing team.The entire program was compered by Ms. Ardra P. Nair (Asst Prof, CE Dept) ensuring a seamless and engaging experience for all. The session was insightful, motivational, and well-received, providing participants with a clearer vision of the vast potential Civil Engineering holds in shaping a better tomorrow and the vital role engineers play in nation-building.
