CE Department launches Indian Plumbing Association (IPA) Student Chapter

The Department of Civil Engineering achieved a significant milestone with the inauguration of the Indian Plumbing Association (IPA) Student Chapter on 07 August 2025. The event was a collaborative initiative between the Department of Civil Engineering and the Indian Plumbing Association (IPA). The ceremony was graced by eminent personalities from the construction and plumbing sectors, along with faculty members and students, making it a memorable occasion.

The ceremony began with a solemn prayer, followed by a welcome address by Mr. Renjith R (Asst Prof, CE Dept). He extended a warm welcome to all dignitaries and emphasized the importance of the Student Chapter in bridging academic learning with industry practices.

Dr. Sunitha C (Principal) delivered the presidential address, underscoring the institution’s commitment to fostering industry–academia collaborations. She highlighted how the initiative would enhance students’ practical knowledge and employability, preparing them to meet the challenges of the construction industry.

The inaugural address was delivered by Er. Bijo K John (Chairman,IPA Kochi), who elaborated on the mission and vision of the IPA, its contributions to the plumbing industry, and the career-building opportunities offered through the Student Chapter. His address was motivational and encouraged students to actively participate in the chapter’s activities.

The guest of honour, Er. Anantha Siva Iyer (NEC Member and Former Chairman of IPA Kochi) shared insights into evolving trends in plumbing and construction, highlighting the importance of sustainable practices and innovation.

The chief guest, Er. Ramakrishnan P (Group Executive Director,DLF) delivered an expert talk on “Indian Construction Industry: Trends and Opportunities”. His session was a highlight of the program, offering students an in-depth perspective on the current challenges, future prospects and the growing need for skilled professionals in the industry. His talk provided both inspiration and a roadmap for aspiring civil engineers.

The event also featured a felicitation ceremony, honoring distinguished individuals for their contributions Er. Rathish S Panikkar, Executive Committee Member, IPA Kochi), Mr. Suresh Lal, (Executive Director, Vidya International Charitable Trust (VICT) and Dr. Abhilasha P. S (Prof & HoD, CE Dept).Their encouraging words reinforced the collaborative spirit between academia and industry.

The formal proceedings concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Athira Anandan (S7,  CE Dept) who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, faculty, students, and organizers for their support in making the event a grand success.

The inauguration of the IPA Student Chapter at VAST marks a landmark achievement for the institution, providing students with a professional platform for holistic learning and industry exposure. The initiative will pave the way for future activities such as workshops, seminars, and hands-on training sessions, enabling students to acquire valuable skills and stay aligned with industry advancements.
