NSS Orientation Programme inspires newly enrolled students
Amid efforts to nurture socially responsible citizens, the National Service Scheme (NSS) hosted an Orientation Programme for newly enrolled students on 9 August 2025, introducing them to the core values, mission, and various programmes of NSS while fostering teamwork and community engagement.
The programme began with ‘Maanavageetham’, creating a serene and focused atmosphere. Mr. Nistal K Paul (Volunteer Secretary, (S7, ME Dept) welcomed all participants, followed by Mr. Rajesh S K (NSS Programme Officer and Asso Prof, EEE Dept) who highlighted the importance of NSS in shaping socially responsible citizens. Mr. Ranjith E R (NSS Programme Officer and Asst Prof, ME Dept) provided a comprehensive overview of the unit, detailing its objectives, activities, and notable achievements, while sharing inspiring stories of the programme’s impact. Newly appointed Volunteer Secretaries were also introduced to the students.
In the second session, coordinators of various flagship programmes presented their initiatives, giving students a clear understanding of the diverse activities they could participate in. Tarun Kumar P, a former Volunteer Secretary and recipient of the Best NSS Directorate-level award, shared his journey as an NSS volunteer, emphasizing the opportunities for leadership, personal growth, and community service.
The afternoon session, led by Mr. Sujay K (NSS Programme Officer & Asst Prof, SSET Ernakulam) featured engaging ice-breaking and interactive activities that fostered teamwork and camaraderie among students. He also highlighted the importance of youth participation in nation-building and introduced a 10-minute fundraising challenge for the Wayanad Relief Fund, through which students creatively raised Rs 4,411, demonstrating their spirit of giving and solidarity.
The orientation concluded at 4:00 PM with a wrap-up session, leaving students motivated and ready to embrace the values of NSS. The programme successfully instilled a sense of responsibility, unity, and commitment to community service among the newly enrolled volunteers.
