NSS volunteers promote energy conservation in Velur Grama Panchayath

To raise awareness about energy conservation among the local community, dedicated volunteers from Vidya, under the National Service Scheme (NSS), visited Velur Grama Panchayath on 15 August 2025, Independence Day. The initiative highlighted the role of citizens in contributing to a sustainable and empowered nation.

During the program, NSS volunteers visited nearly 200 households, providing energy-saving awareness talks and distributing informative notices. The sessions focused on practical tips for daily energy conservation, including:

  • Turning off lights, fans, and appliances when not in use

  • Using energy-efficient LED lighting

  • Unplugging devices to avoid standby power consumption

  • Maximizing natural daylight

  • Optimizing usage of air conditioners and refrigerators

Volunteers explained the long-term benefits of energy-saving habits, both for reducing household electricity bills and protecting the environment. Residents actively engaged with the volunteers, asking questions and showing interest in implementing the suggested measures.
