NSS Biriyani Challenge 2025 : a collective effort toward the home for homeless project

With an objective to create awareness among students about social responsibility and community welfare, the NSS Unit of Vidya Academy of Science and Technology organized a special fundraising initiative titled “Biriyani Challenge” on 03 October 2025 in the college campus. The primary goal of the program was to mobilize funds for the Home for Homeless project — an NSS initiative aimed at constructing secure, permanent homes for homeless individuals.

The Biriyani Challenge involved the preparation and campus-wide distribution of freshly made biriyani to students, faculty, staff, and visitors. NSS volunteers took full responsibility for every stage of the event — cooking, serving, hygiene supervision, crowd management, and waste disposal. Strict adherence to food safety and cleanliness standards ensured a smooth and safe experience for all participants.

The event was led with enthusiasm by the NSS KTU Care Coordinators: P D Aravind (S5, ME Dept), Abhinav K M (S5, CSE Dept), Harikrishnan K S (S5, CSE Dept), Anusree (S5, EEE Dept), Anjana V S (S5, ECE Dept), Albin Saji (S5, ECE Dept), Amrutha P (S5, ECE Dept), and Devika T S (S5, ECE Dept).

The program was effectively guided by Mr. Ranjith E R (NSS Program Officer, Asst Prof, ME Dept),Ms. Delmy David V (NSS Program Officer, Asst Prof, CSE Dept), Mr. Rajesh S K (NSS Program Officer, Asso Prof, EEE  Dept) and Ms. Anu Maria Antony  (NSS Program Officer, Asst Prof, CE Dept).

The event received an overwhelming response from the Vidya community.A total of 1,400 biriyani packs were distributed successfully, generating substantial funds for the Home for Homeless project. The entire proceeds were contributed to the project to support the construction of houses for individuals in need.

The dedication, discipline, and teamwork demonstrated by the NSS volunteers played a crucial role in the flawless execution of the event. The success of the Biriyani Challenge underscored the strength of collective effort and the compassion of the student community in addressing social issues.
