Preplacement orientation by Varna Group
A placement orientation session was provided to the final year 2026 graduating batch students of Civil Engineering branch by Varna Group on 22nd January 2026. The session was handled by Ms. Varsha M Gopi, HR and Administration Manager at Varna Group. She was joined by Ms. Revathy Krishnan, HR and Admin Executive. The session was specially focused for the final year B. Tech Civil Engineering and M. Tech Structural Engineering students.
The session began with Ms. Varsha providing an overview of the Varna Group, details about the key officials at the group and about the various divisions and unit under the group:
- Varna Glass and Plywood Trading – which is exclusively into glass products and glass processing plants.
- Varna Interior – which provides interior solutions, more specifically modular kitchen products
- Faboolux – Interior solutions for homes
- DC Designer Choice – This company deals with specialized interior and exterior products like plywood, PVC sheets, mirrors, laminates, veneer, clads, etc.
- UFMCOM – a business consultancy unit
- Trutuff Safety Glass – dealers in high quality toughened glass
- Rahmaniya Charitable Trust – A trust to providing social service for elderly, women, and child education
After this brief background setting about the company, their market segment, products and services; Ms. Varsha informed the students about how to get ready to get a placement offer with the group concerns.
Under this section, she explained to the student about the various job roles and opportunities available for civil engineers. She told them about the certifications that will help to be equipped and about the platform from where such certifications could be done. Finally, Ms. Varsha explained to them what to expect in an interview and on how to prepare for the interviews. She told them about the importance of:
- Importance of dress code
- Importance of personal grooming, body posture
- Importance of listening, and polite communication
- How to go about a self-introduction
- How to share the details of skills one possesses
- Importance of knowing the company
- Importance of knowing the job profile
- Importance of knowing the subject or the domain’s basic concepts
- Knowledge of CAD skills
It is noted that now a days besides an aptitude test and multiple interview rounds; company’s also carry out a technical test or a machine test to ascertain the hands-on skills of the candidates. Thus, practical computer aided skills like Auto CAD are an essential skill set.
After the formal talk, there was a student interaction session for doubt clearing. Dr. Abhilasha PS, HoD Civil Engineering Department addressed and gathering and Ms. Rini KR, Placement Officer proposed a vote of thanks.
