VSEC Head handles session on “How to measure the height of Tall Buildings”
Vidya Social Empowerment Center (VSEC), under the aegis of Vidya International Charitable Trust (VICT), nurtures students’ abilities for growth in both personal and professional spheres.
A special session titled “How to Measure the Height of Tall Buildings” was conducted by Dr. Siju K. C (Head, VSEC and Asso. Prof, AS Dept) for the scholarship students of the Kovilagath Foundation on 04 October 2025.
The session focused on demonstrating how mathematics can be practically applied to determine the height of tall structures without the need to physically climb them. Dr. Siju introduced three widely used methods: the Shadow Method, the Mirror Method, and the Angle of Elevation Method, explaining the mathematical principles behind each technique and illustrating their real-world applications.
Through examples and hands-on activities, participants learned how to calculate heights using ratios, similar triangles, and trigonometric functions. The session also highlighted practical applications of these methods in areas such as surveying, bridge design, aviation safety, and astronomy, providing students with a clear understanding of how mathematical concepts are used professionally.
The session was highly interactive and engaging, encouraging students to apply mathematical reasoning to solve practical problems. It effectively showcased the beauty and usefulness of mathematics in everyday life and professional practice, leaving participants inspired to explore further applications of mathematical techniques.
| The Editorial Team of News & Events joins the entire Vidya fraternity in extending heartiest congratulations to Dr. Siju on delivering an useful virtual session that that showcases how mathematics can be effectively applied to solve real-world problems.!!! |
