Vidya unwraps the ‘GIFT’ of empowerment on International Women’s Day

Vidya campus turned into a sea of pink for ‘GIFT (Giving Inspiration & Fostering Trailblazers)’.The day unfolded with the campus adorned in vibrant shades of pink, reflecting the spirit, unity, and strength of womanhood.The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm as girl students gathered with great energy and positivity. The campus radiated empowerment during its International Women’s Day celebration, a day marked by trailblazing stories and creative expression.
International Women’s Day is observed globally on 08 March each year to honour the achievements of women and to recognize their invaluable contributions to society. As 08 March 2026 falls on a Sunday,Vidya Women Empowerment Cell (VWEC), in association with IQAC and ISTE organized  the celebration titled GIFT (Giving Inspiration & Fostering Trailblazers) on 06 March 2026.
The programme commenced with a prayer by Yamini Vijayan (S6,CE Dept), setting a respectful and positive tone for the event. This was followed by the Welcome Address delivered by Srivia E S (Chairperson, S6 CE Dept), who warmly welcomed the chief guest, dignitaries, faculty members, and students to the celebration.The gathering was then addressed by Dr. Sunitha C (Principal) who spoke about the importance of empowering women and encouraging young women to pursue their aspirations with confidence and determination.Dr. Sunitha also highlighted the significant role of girl students in taking up leadership positions and contributing positively to society.
Kerala’s first Woman Excise Inspector Ms O. Sajitha (Circle Inspector of Excise, Janamaithri Excise Squad, Nilambur)
In her introductory speech, Ms. Surabhi (Co-convener,VWEC Asst. Librarian) highlighted the historic moment that captured widespread media attention when a woman became Kerala’s first Woman Excise Inspector.Ms. Surabhi, while introducing the Chief Guest, highlighted her inspiring professional journey, noting that Ms. Sajitha earned her B.Sc. in Chemistry and a B.Ed. degree. The audience was further inspired as the Co-convener, Ms. Surabhi, traced the remarkable career trajectory of Ms. Sajitha, who entered the Excise Department as a Civil Excise Officer in 2014 and, through unyielding dedication, successfully cleared the PSC examinations to be appointed as an Excise Inspector in 2019
A Journey of Resilience and Responsibility
Following the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, Ms O. Sajitha delivered an inspiring talk, sharing her journey of becoming Kerala’s first Woman Excise Inspector, a historic achievement that received widespread media attention and recognition. She spoke candidly about the challenges she encountered, the perseverance required to overcome obstacles, and the vital role of courage and dedication in achieving one’s goals. She spoke candidly about the steadfast support of her family, which acted as her shield against the public skepticism often directed at women in rigorous law enforcement roles. Beyond her personal milestones, she issued a clarion call for social responsibility, urging the students to be vigilant in the collective fight against drug abuse and illicit activities.
The official session concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Ms Resmi K. Rajan (Convener,VWEC, Asst. Prof – Sr. Grade, ECE Dept) who expressed heartiest gratitude to the chief guest, management, faculty members, and students for their support and participation in making the event a success.She further appreciated the unwavering support of all coordinators and made it a point to recognize and applaud the contributions of everyone involved in making the event a success.
Pink Photo Booth of Joy – Ready in a Day
With the students’ dedication, led by  Ayisha Fidha R S (Girls’ Representative,S4, CSE Dept) the pink-themed photo booth was ready swiftly, drawing attention and welcoming everyone to capture memorable moments.“ensured cost-effectiveness by personally collecting all the materials and preparing everything within a single day
Tradition meets modernity – the ramp walk steals the spotlight!
The programme was further enlivened by cultural performances presented by the students, adding grace, colour, and vibrancy to the celebration. Through Rangapooja performance, students creatively reflected on gender diversity and celebrated the strength, resilience, and identity of the third gender, fostering a message of inclusivity and respect. For the very first time, a ramp walk was conducted, where the girl students creatively showcased the fusion of traditional attire with modern fashion, beautifully highlighting the evolution of culture into contemporary style.
