ECE Dept conducts FDP on “Sensors & Actuators”

With an aim  to update the knowledge of educators, researchers, and students in modern sensors and actuators by providing industrial insights and aligning academic teaching with current industry standards and the KTU 2024 Curriculum (ECE S5 Elective), the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized a Six-Day Online Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Sensors & Actuators” from April 20 to April 25, 2026. Sponsored by IQAC, IE(I), and ISTE VAST Chapters, the program was designed to align with the KTU 2024 Curriculum for the ECE S5 Elective, catering to faculty members, research scholars, and M.Tech students from AICTE-approved institutions. The initiative aimed to update participants’ knowledge on modern sensor technologies and actuators, bridging the gap between academic instruction and industry demands.

The FDP was formally inaugurated on 20 April 2026, via Google Meet, in an online ceremony presided over by Dr. S Swapna Kumar (Prof & HoD, ECE Dept) and inaugurated by Dr. Sunitha C (Principal, VAST), with felicitations delivered by Dr. Shalij P R (Academic Director). The welcome address was given by Ms. Jemy Jose Kakkassery (Asst Prof,ECE Dept), while Ms. Resmi K Rajan (FDP Coordinator,Asst Prof – Sr Grade,ECE Dept) offered vote of thanks.

Over the course of six days, expert sessions were conducted daily from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM by distinguished academic and industry leaders. Dr. Jayarenjini N (HOD, VAST Technical Campus, Kilimanoor) initiated Day 1 with foundational concepts on sensor characteristics and displacement transducers. Day 2 and Day 6 were led by Dr. Abitha M A (Asso Prof, VAST), focusing on force, strain, and tactile sensing, as well as electric, servo and electro-pneumatic actuators. Dr. S Swapna Kumar (Prof & HoD, ECE Dept)  delivered sessions on Days 3 and 5, covering fluid flow, thermal, proximity, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. A key highlight on Day 4 was a lecture by Mr. Zaher V Abdulrahman (Electronics Lead at Jaguar Land Rover Limited (UK)), who shared practical industrial insights on smart sensor systems and edge intelligence.

The program concluded successfully, equipping educators with the skills needed to teach modern curriculum topics while enhancing research perspectives and interdisciplinary learning among participants. Certificates were awarded upon completion.Ms. Resmi K Rajan (FDP Coordinator,Asst Prof – Sr Grade,ECE Dept) coordinated the entire FDP under the guidance of Dr. S Swapna Kumar (Prof & HoD, ECE Dept)
