VSEC empowers young readers at ‘SAY’ Book Review Competition

To nurture literary appreciation and sharpen critical thinking skills among high school students, Vidya Social Empowerment Center (VSEC), under the aegis of Vidya International Charitable Trust (VICT) organized a book review competition titled “SAY (Sharing A Yarn)’ on  03 July 2026.. The event was organized jointly by the Central Library and the Literary & Debate Club. Held at St. George High School, Puttekara, the event formed a central part of the campus’s Readers’ Week celebrations, commemorating the enduring legacy of Mr. P. N. Panicker, the father of Kerala’s library movement.

The programme opened with an engaging welcome address by Ms. Nirmaladevi (Head Mistress, St. George High School, Puttekara), who reflected on the vital role of reading in driving lifelong learning. Before the competition commenced, Ms. Surabhi M. S. (VSEC Staff Member, Asst Librarian), detailed the rules and judging criteria, commending the participants for taking on the challenging task of critical review. Adding a touch of literary flair Ms. Akhila R (VSEC Staff Member,Asst Prof–Sr Grade, EEE Dept) inspired the participants. Following an internal preliminary evaluation by the school, a final shortlist of 10 students was selected to advance to the ultimate round.

The competition saw energetic participation from Plus Two students, who delivered creative, articulate reviews spanning diverse genres including fiction, non-fiction, biographies, and historical works.

Following evaluation by judges Ms. Surabhi M. S. (VSEC Staff Member, Asst Librarian) and Ms. Akhila R (VSEC Staff Member, Asst Prof – Sr Grade, EEE  Dept) the following students emerged as winners.

The seamless execution of  ‘SAY’ within a tight schedule was achieved through the collective effort of Ms. Surabhi M. S. (Co-ordinator) with particular recognition given to Abraham John Earaly (Co-ordinator,S7, ECE Dept) andSuraj Krishna K. (Co-ordinator, S5, CSE Dept).Dr. Siju K. C (Head, VSEC and Asso. Prof, AS Dept) extended essential support to make the event a success.

The event concluded with Ms. Nirmala (Head Mistress) presenting certificates, special gifts and books to the winners, alongside tokens of appreciation for all participants. In recognition of their participation, all students were presented with a gift, a certificate and a token of appreciation.
