Vidya Staff Club brings the spirit of Onam ‘AARPPONAM 2026’ to life with a vibrant celebration of tradition, talent and togetherness.

With colours, music, dance, laughter and togetherness, ‘AARPPONAM 2026’ brought the Vidya fraternity together in the true spirit of Kerala’s beloved festival.Vidya auditorium turned into a vibrant hub of celebration as staff members came together to celebrate Onam with enthusiasm and warmth on 22 August 2026.

The celebrations began with the creation of an exquisite Pookalam, where staff members joined hands to weave colourful floral patterns.taff members from different departments worked together with enthusiasm, transforming the space into a colourful expression of Onam traditions.

Mega Thiruvathira

One of the most enchanting highlights of the celebration was ‘Mega Thiruvathira’ by staff members in a graceful display of rhythm and coordination. With every graceful step and rhythmic movement, the Mega Thiruvathira radiated joy, elegance and togethernes.The synchronized movements of the participants created a mesmerising spectacle that captured the essence of Kerala’s traditional art form.

Inaugural Session

The festivities commenced with a prayer led by Ms. Akhila R (Asst Prof – Sr Grade, EEE Dept) invoking blessings and setting a serene and auspicious tone for the celebrations.Dr. Sreedevi (Secretary , Staff Club and Asso. Prof., AS Dept) warmly welcomed the gathering and extended heartfelt Onam greetings to the entire Vidya fraternity.The inaugural ceremony commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Mr. Dr. Sunitha C. (Principal). This was followed by festive addresses from the dignitaries, Suresh Lal (Executive Director, VICT), Dr. Shalij P. R. (Director – Academics) who shared messages emphasizing the values of unity and harmony that lie at the heart of Onam .The formal proceedings concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. K. Vijayanarayanan (Joint Secretary- Staff Club, Library Attendant)

Onakkodi for all to wrap in tradition, united by the spirit of Onam

As part of the Onam celebrations, Onakkodi gifts comprising traditional mundu for the male staff and set mundu for the female staff were distributed to all staff members, adding a special touch of tradition and festive joy to the occasion.

The festive mood reached new heights with the Onappattu and Thiruvathira competitions, which brought together talent, tradition, and healthy competition.Melodious Onappattu renditions resonated through the auditorium, filling the atmosphere with the nostalgic charm of Onam.The Thiruvathira performances added grace and elegance to the celebrations, showcasing the timeless cultural heritage of Kerala.Staff members from various departments participated enthusiastically, turning the competitions into a vibrant celebration of talent and teamwork.The competitions provided a wonderful platform for staff members to showcase their artistic talents beyond their professional roles.

Ms. Akhila R (Asst Prof – Sr Grade, EEE Dept) and Ms. Mini N B (Administrative Associate to the Principal – VAST) served as judges for all the competitions. They meticulously evaluated each performance and event, providing fair judgments and encouraging words to all the enthusiastic participants.

The stage was enlivened by a vibrant array of cultural performances by staff members from the AIML, CE, CSE, and ECE departments..Adding to the festive fervour, Dr. S. Swapna Kumar (Prof. & Head, ECE Dept), Mr. Aneesh M A (Library Attendant), Mr Biju P V (Asso Prof, ME Dept),Mr Santumon S D (Asst Prof, ECE Dept),Ms Sumitha V S (Trade Instructor, MCA), Ms Vijayalekshmy T K ( Hostel Matron),Dr. Sajay K. R. (HoD I/c,CSE Dept) and Ms Reena filled the venue with joy and emotion, amplifying the festive spirit. Mr. K. Vijayanarayanan (Library Attendant) enthralled the audience with a heartfelt recital of his self-composed poem.

Onam 2026: Feast, Games, and Festivities Bring the Vidya Fraternity Together

The traditional Onam Sadya added flavour and warmth to the celebrations, bringing staff members together in the spirit of sharing and fellowship. The event featured fun-filled games like Uriyadi and the spoon race, which added great excitement to the occasion while fostering friendly interaction and strengthening camaraderie among colleagues. Heightening the festive enthusiasm, the highlight of the celebration was the Lucky Draw, where Ms. Priyanka Vijayakumar (Trade Instructor, ECE Dept) emerged as the lucky winner.Mr. Santumon S D (Asst Prof, ECE Dept) enthusiastically steered the event as the host, with his engaging compering adding a delightful charm to the celebration.
