NSS concducts Onam Kit distribution program for deserving families
As part of its commitment to social responsibility and community welfare, the NSS Unit of Vidya Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) organized an Onam Kit Distribution Programme for deserving families in Velur Panchayath on 24 August 2026. The initiative was undertaken to share the joy and spirit of Onam with economically disadvantaged families by providing essential provisions for the festival. Through the active participation of students, faculty members, and NSS volunteers, the programme promoted the values of compassion, generosity, social responsibility, and community engagement.
Objectives of the Programme

To support economically disadvantaged families by providing essential provisions for the Onam celebrations.

To share the festive spirit and joy of Onam with families who may face financial difficulties in celebrating the festival.

To encourage NSS volunteers and students to actively participate in community welfare and social responsibility initiatives
As part of the initiative, essential grocery items required for preparing an Onam meal were collected and organized into individual kits. Each Onam kit, valued at approximately ?1,000, contained essential provisions such as rice, pulses, sugar, cooking oil, spices, and other household necessities.
The initiative was made possible through the generous contributions of the NSS volunteers, students, and staff of VAST.
The programme was carried out with the active involvement and dedicated support of the NSS Volunteer Secretaries—Pavithra M G (S5, CSE Dept), Sachin Mathew (S5, CSE), Midhun Das K (S5, CE), Prakeerthana Baiju (S5, AIML Dept), Muhammed Bilal A A (S5, EEE Dept) and Sona P S (S5, ECE Dept)—whose enthusiastic participation contributed significantly to the successful execution of the initiative.
The programme was coordinated under the guidance of Mr. Ranjith E R (Programme Officer, Asst Prof,ME Dept) and Ms. Delmy David V (NSS Programme Officer, Asst Prof,CSE Dept)
