BootUp: The SpringBoot Experience – A Hands-on Java Workshop by CSE

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Vidya Academy of Science & Technology, organized a one-day hands-on Java workshop titled “BootUp: The SpringBoot Experience – A Hands-on Java Workshop” on 30 September 2026 at the Common Computer Center. The programme was designed for B.Tech CSE second-year students and witnessed the participation of 100 students.

The workshop was conducted as a practical and industry-oriented learning initiative with the support of CSE alumni. Mr. Adithyan M. S (2022–26 batch,CSE Dept) and Mr. Afsal Ahammed Y. A.(2022–26 batch,CSE Dept)  served as the resource persons. The programme focused on Java and Spring Boot development, REST APIs, database integration, and project-oriented hands-on learning.

2. Objectives
To introduce students to Spring Boot fundamentals and its role in Java-based backend application development.
To provide practical exposure to building REST APIs using Spring Boot.
To familiarize students with database integration in backend applications.
To provide hands-on experience in developing and testing a practical application.
To expose students to industry-relevant Java backend development practices and tools.
To strengthen alumni–student interaction through direct technical engagement with recent CSE alumni.

3. Proceedings

The workshop commenced with an introduction to Java backend development and the Spring Boot ecosystem. The resource persons explained the fundamentals of Spring Boot and demonstrated how it can be used to develop structured, scalable backend applications. The sessions combined conceptual explanations with live practical implementation.

3.1 Technical Sessions

The major areas covered during the workshop included Spring Boot fundamentals, REST API development, database integration, application structure, and hands-on project development. Students were guided through the development workflow and were encouraged to implement the concepts directly in the computer centre environment.

3.2 Hands-on Learning

The practical component enabled the 100 participating students to work with programming tools and application code. The resource persons demonstrated the implementation process while students followed the activities, tested their code, and explored the structure of a Java Spring Boot application. This approach helped students connect theoretical concepts with practical development. Ms. Ranjima (Trade Instructor, CSE Dept) provided laboratory support and assisted in facilitating the practical activities.

The Editorial Team of News & Events joins the entire Vidya fraternity in extending hearty appreciation to Mr. Adithyan and Mr. Afsal on this successful, conduct of the session that provide hands-on experience in developing Java applications and  enables participants to understand its core features, simplify application development, and  run a basic Spring Boot application !!!
