Vidya team holds Science Awareness Programme at Mannamangalam School

A team of faculty members of Vidya under the leadership of Dr Latha Raj P (SWS Director, VICT) organised a special programme under the Science Awareness Programme (SAP) Project of Vidya at St Sebastian’s School, Mannamangalam on 07 July 2018. The SAP Project is being implemented with funding from Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE).

The programme was aimed at creating deep awareness of and appreciation for the contributions of science for the development of the society and the nation.  As many as 146 children studying in the 8th standard and their parents participated in the programme.

Dr Latha Raj delivered a special address to the parents conveying the message that the parents should nurture the talents and interests of the children and also should support and encourage the children to follow their dreams. Mr Anil Paul (AP, ME Dept) handled a session devoted to making the children aware of the importance of science and development and of their role in this area. He gave a motivational talk and encouraged them to dream high. Mr Biju P V (AP, ME dept) delivered a talk on the various achievements in the field of science in India.

As a part of the programme an aptitude test to find out the area of interest and the aptitude of the children was conducted. Based on the test and interactions, a profile of each student will be created. This profile may help the children and their parents to choose a course of study and a career in the future.
