Open street mapping by NSS volunteers

The NSS units of of Vidya organized an open street mapping programme on 19 December 2019 in Kaiparambu and Choondal Gramapanchayats. The programme started at 09:30 a.m and around 18 NSS volunteers completed  mapping of the area by 12 am and uploaded the data to OpenStreetMap.

OpenStreetMap (OSM) is a collaborative project to create a free editable map of the world. The geodata underlying the map is considered the primary output of the project. The creation and growth of OSM has been motivated by restrictions on use or availability of map data across much of the world, and the advent of inexpensive portable satellite navigation devices. OSM is considered a prominent example of volunteered geographic information.(Wikipedia)
