CCE conducts FDP on LaTeX for Vidya’s faculty members

As a small step towards improving the quality of the overall academic ambiance of the College, the Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) of Vidya is organising a five-session Internal Faculty Development Programme (IFDP) on the document preparation system LaTeX for the faculty members of Vidya in the online mode.

Schedule

To facilitate the smooth conduct of the programme, CCE is conducting the programme in two editions. The first edition was held during 22 – 26 February 2021 and was targeted at faculty members of the CE, CSE, PE and Applied Science and Humanities Departments. The second edition to be held during 1 – 5 March 2021 is targeted at the faculty members of the remaining Departments. The sessions are one hour and half duration every day (01.45 – 03.15 pm)

Course completion

As part of the programme all participants are required to submit a paper prepared in the IEEE formatting style. A participant would be deemed to have successfully completed the IFDP only if he/she had submitted the paper within the stipulated deadline.

Resource person

The resource person for the training programme is Dr V N Krishnachandran, Vice-Principal and Head of MCA Dept of the College. This was what the resource person had to say about the programme at the time of the announcement of the programme:

“LaTeX is an “ancient” software system for document preparation. It has been around for more than 40 years. But LaTeX is still widely used in academia for the communication and publication of scientific documents in many fields, including mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, physics, economics, linguistics, quantitative psychology, philosophy, and political science.

The sessions will be held in a “very slow pace” in the fully hands on mode so that all participants get enough time to practice everything that is being talked about.

To attend a session, every participant should make available two devices: A laptop/desktop for the hands-on practice and a second device (mobile phone or laptop) to listen to the instructions. Instructions on how to install the software will be issued during the first session of the programme. The participants are advised not to sit together in clusters as it is against current COVID-19 protocols.”

Programme Coordinator

Ms Reji C Joy (Asso Prof, MCA Dept), Assistant Coordinator, CCE, will be the Coordinator of the IFDP.
