IEEE Student Branch of Vidya flying high: Gets selected to finals of a global competition

Yes, the IEEE Student Branch of Vidya is indeed flying high! Facing stiff international competition from teams across the wold and humbling the opponents, a project of their’s has found a place among twelve finalists in a global Humanitarian Technology Project Design (HTPD) Competition for IEEE Power & Energy Society chapters conducted during February – April 2021. The presentations for selecting the winners are being held in six different venues in different countries during 24 -25 April 2021.

Background

As part of the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Day 2021 celebrations, the Power & Energy Society Humanitarian Activity Committee (PES-HAC) announced a global Humanitarian Technology Project Design (HTPD) Competition for IEEE PES chapters and student branch chapters. It is an initiative of the PES Member Development Initiative (MDI). By joining this HTPD competition, a participant is expected to get:

  • Participatory training on PES humanitarian technology project design
  • Feedback on his/her project design and learn important aspects of various projects
  • Certificate of participation and best project-design prizes (if selected in top three positions)

Any project related to the broad areas of power and energy, which involves humanitarian technology and sustainable development could be chosen for this competition. Projects related to the theme of the PES Day 2021 “Clean Energy Revolution” and that could help to fight COVID19 pandemic were particularly appreciated.

Vidya’s achievement

IEEE Student Branch in Vidya participated in the Competition and their “Team SB VAST” has been selected winners of the Local Round from Region 10, India  to go for the  final edition of the Competition. It was the project titled “The Project Blue Sky” from the team which was  selected for presentation in the final stage which was held in the virtual mode on 24 April 2021. The team from Vidya  was one of the 12 humanitarian projects across the world selected for the final round.

The  project idea is about an air filter and disinfectant using the latest technology so as to kill the virus and purify the air.
