CE Dept gets more involved in Rebuild Kerala Initiative

Government of Kerala established the Rebuild Kerala Initiative (RKI) to bring about a perceptible change in the lives and livelihoods of the people of Kerala after the state had been devastated by two major floods. One of the major components of this Initiative was the renovation of public roads maintained by the Local Self Govt Department (LSGD). The works relating to field investigation for preparation of DPR were delegated to Engineering Colleges in Kerala. The CE Dept of Vidya has been associated with the various activities associated with the Rebuild Kerala Initiative.

The Project Management Unit (PMU RKI LSGD) which was constituted for effective management of projects assigned to LSGD as a part of Rebuild Kerala Initiative has set up a three tier quality check mechanism in works related to rebuilding of severely damaged roads. The second tier is a third party quality check by a panel of expert faculties from engineering colleges. Through a Govt Order issued recently, the Govt of Kerala gave sanction to the Civil Dept of Vidya to serve as the second tier in the quality control mechanism.

As part of the second tier quality inspection, three faculty members of Vidya,  Dr Abhilasha P S (Associate Professor, CE Dept), Mr Renjith R and Mr Kiran Babu A R, Assistant Professors of CE Dept, conducted quality monitoring tests of roads assigned under Rebuild Kerala Initiative LSGD in Wayanad District during 31 January – 2 February 2022.
