Vidys students secure silver medals in the Kumite and Kata in karate

E S Dev Sagar (S7 B Tech PE) in the 65 kg category and Sayooj V S (S5 B Tech ME) in the 55 kg category secured silver medals in the Kumite and Kata in the KTU Karate Team selection and Inter Collegiate Tournament held at Kerala University campus, Thiruvananthapuram on 26 February 2022.

Kumite and Kata in karate

Kumite (literally “grappling hands”) is one of the three main sections of karate training, along with kata and kihon. Kumite is the part of karate in which a person trains against an adversary. Kumite can be used to develop a particular technique or a skill (e.g. effectively judging and adjusting one’s distance from one’s opponent) or it can be done in competition. (Wikipedia)
