ME students visit Kannan Devan Tea Factory

With an aim to practically learn through interactions with the experts from the industry, an Industrial visit was conducted to S5 ME students at Kannan Devan Hills Plantation Company as part of their three day long industrial visit from 16 – 18 December 2022.

The students were able to better identify their prospective areas of work in the overall organizational function during visit. In the industry they explained the tea processing and differences in tea categories.  The flavor of the tea is determined by the type of cultivar of the tea bush, the quality of the plucked tea leaves, and the manner and quality of the production processing they undergo.  Each type of tea has a different taste, smell, and visual appearance but tea processing for all tea types consists of a very similar set of methods with only minor variations. The various processes include Plucking, Withering / wilting, Disruption, Oxidation, Fixation, Sweltering, Rolling / shaping, Drying, Aging / curing and Sorting were well explained and demonstrated by the resource person.

The group tutors, Mr Anilkumar K R (Asso Prof, ME Dept), Dinil Babu (Asst Prof, ME Dept), Ms Bittu Lambi (Asso Prof, AS Dept) and Ms Vidhya V (Asst Prof, AS Dept) led the visit.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to the students to get involved in knowledge sharing and to think and work on recent trends.

Hearty appreciations to all involved !!!
