ECE Dept conducts Field visit of Little Kites IT Club – St. Francis HSS, Mattom to Vidya Campus

To develop and provide guidelines to create individual objectives with skillful objectives, ECE Dept conducted a field visit to the students of St. Francis HSS, Mattom on 20 October 2023. A total of 31 students (Tenth grade) and two teachers of Little Kites IT Club of the School attended the session The programme was started with a welcome address by Dr S Swapna Kumar, (HoD, CE Dept).

The first session of the day was a 3 D printing demonstration session and it was handled by Jeeva Haridasan Menon (S7, ECE Dept). Students were introduced to the software, Fusion 360 and the design methodology of 3D printing was briefed. Live 3D printing of a key chain with the name of the school printed on it was demonstrated.

This session was followed by a session on Robotics handled by Ms Jemy Jose Kakkassery (Asst Prof, ECE Dept). Students were introduced to different types of robots and their working was demonstrated. Assembly of line follower robot was also briefed. A session on LED products assembly, handled by Ms Shegi Prakash (Trade Instructor, ECE Dept) helped the students understand the different possibilities and applications of LED based products.

They were then taken to the Advanced Communication Lab of ECE Department to see various microwave and optical communication equipments. Ms Snehalatha O J (Asst Prof, ECE Dept), Ms Viji Vinodan (Trade Instructor, ECE Dept) and Ms. Shegi Prakash (Trade Instructor, ECE Dept) demonstrated the functionality of different types of microwave devices and made the students experience the effects of optical communication.
Then the students were taken to Civil Engineering Department where they were welcomed by Dr Abhilasha P S (HoD, CE Dept) . The students were taken to Environmental Lab first and Ms Ardra P. Nair(Asst Prof, CE Dept). and Mr Kiran Babu A R (Asst Prof, CE Dept) briefed the methods of water quality and pollution testing. They were also taken to Geotechnical Lab where soil testing methodologies were also explained. The students were thrilled and surprised to see the Densegrity structures developed by the Department.

In the Mechanical Engineering Department, students were taken to Production lab and Mr Vishnu Shaji (Asst Prof, ME Dept) introduced various types of machine tools to them. They also visited the Fluid Machinery lab where they could see different types of turbines and pumps.

The team was extremely happy to take with them the 3D printed keychain with the name of their school printed on it. The students and teachers of St. Francis HSS were really happy on their visit to Vidya and a quick learning experience.
