Workshop on “LINUX FEST” by ‘Aikyam’ Club

In an effort to bridge theory and practice, the Aikyam Club of Vidya Academy of Science and Technology conducted Linux Fest, a dynamic workshop designed to immerse students in the world of Linux and practical knowledge of the Linux ecosystem.

The event commenced with an interactive session on Linux fundamentals, guiding students through the core concepts of operating systems, especially the advantages of Linux.Binil Babu P (S6, CSE Dept) led a hands-on tutorial on essential terminal commands, helping students understand their real-world applications.

A key highlight of the morning was a live demonstration on booting Linux from USB drives, presented by  Maanav Madhu (S4, CSE Dept). This gave attendees practical insight into running Linux live systems without the need for installation. Participants also discovered quirky and engaging Linux packages, including one that transformed the mouse pointer into a cat and a custom terminal package by Sarathkumar (S4, CSE Dept), which displayed the unique <aikyam/>_ logo—an impressive example of student innovation.

In the afternoon, the energy shifted to a more relaxed and interactive atmosphere with engaging games and activities, including Vidya’s first-ever LAN party, which saw enthusiastic participation. Nivin P Louis (S4, AIML Dept)  captivated the audience with short, insightful talks on Web3, sparking meaningful discussions about decentralized technologies and the future of the internet.

As a thoughtful souvenir, attendees received polaroid photographs, while participation was formally recognized with “Material You”-styled certificates—a creative first among college clubs, showcasing Aikyam’s blend of technology and design excellence.

The event concluded with an informal “Chai with Tech” session, where participants shared feedback, discussed ideas, and explored possibilities for future tech initiatives.

Linux Fest proved to be a resounding success, combining learning, innovation, and community spirit in a truly memorable event. The session was co ordinated by Ms. Manjusha P  (Institution Co-ordinator – FOSSERS Club, Asst Prof, AIML Dept).
