VSEC Head handles session on “Exploring Mensuration – Part C: Area, Surface Area, and Volume of Cone”

Dr. Siju K. C (Head – VSEC and Asso. Prof, AS Dept) conducted an academic enrichment session titled “Exploring Mensuration – Part C: Area, Surface Area, and Volume of Cone” on 03 January  2026. The session aimed at strengthening students’ conceptual understanding of mensuration.

The session began with a revision of fundamental concepts related to 2D shapes and basic 3D solids such as cube, cuboid, and cylinder, along with their respective area, surface area, and volume formulas. Subsequently, the concept of the cone was introduced in detail, with a clear explanation of its structure and properties. Different types of cones were discussed to help students distinguish between them and understand their geometric characteristics.

An interactive activity was conducted to guide students through the conceptual development and derivation of formulas related to cones. This activity encouraged active participation, logical reasoning, and experiential learning.

Overall, the session significantly enhanced students’ understanding of mensuration concepts and improved their confidence in applying formulas to solve problems.
