EEE Students and Faculty members publish research on AI-Based Plant Health Monitoring Robot

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, has achieved another significant research milestone with the publication of the paper titled “Plant Health Monitoring AI Robot” in the International Journal of Innovative Research in Technology (IJIRT).
The research was carried out by Amos Akash P (S8, EEE Dept), Abhinav P (S8, EEE Dept), Abel Baiju (S8, EEE Dept) and Akhil P Pradeep (S8, EEE Dept), under the guidance of Dr. Mary P. Varghese (Prof, EEE Dept) and Ms. Anooja V.S.(Asst Prof – Sr Grade, EEE Dept)
The published work presents the design and development of an AI-powered autonomous robot for monitoring the health of eggplant crops using advanced Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. The robot navigates through agricultural fields using a line-following mechanism based on Infrared (IR) sensors and is controlled by Arduino UNO and NodeMCU (ESP8266) microcontrollers.
The system captures images of plant leaves and employs a TensorFlow-based CNN model to accurately classify leaves as healthy or diseased. To enhance user convenience, the robot integrates with the Blynk platform, enabling real-time monitoring, remote control, and instant notifications. An automatic spraying mechanism is also incorporated to dispense fertilizers or pesticides immediately after disease detection, reducing manual intervention and improving crop management efficiency.
The proposed solution demonstrates the potential of Artificial Intelligence, IoT, and Robotics in advancing precision agriculture by enabling timely disease detection, improving crop productivity and promoting sustainable farming practices.
