Civil faculty members and students attend IPPL technical session on modern building plumbing practices

Participation in professional technical programmes provides faculty members with valuable opportunities for continuous learning and professional development.Such programmes enable faculty to stay abreast of emerging technologies, sustainable practices, and evolving industry requirements. The knowledge and practical insights gained through these engagements can be effectively incorporated into classroom teaching and laboratory activities, thereby strengthening the connection between academic learning and professional practice.

Dr. Abhilasha P. S. (Prof, HoD, CE Dept) and Ms. Seetha Pisharikkel (Asst Prof,CE Dept) attended the IPPL Curtain Raiser Event and Tech Talk organized by the Indian Plumbing Association (IPA), Kochi Chapter, at Hotel Dass Continental, Thrissur, on 10 September 2026. The technical session, titled “Building Plumbing – Issues, Troubleshooting and Solutions” provided valuable insights into practical plumbing systems, common challenges encountered in building plumbing, and effective troubleshooting methods.

The session emphasized the importance of water conservation, sustainable plumbing practices, energy and water efficiency, and innovative solutions in building services. Participants were introduced to modern plumbing products and technologies, including flushometers, soap dispensers, angle valves, hand dryers, and other water-efficient plumbing systems. Demonstrations of flushometers and hydraulic mechanisms helped students gain a clearer understanding of their working principles and practical applications.

The programme was an informative and enriching experience for both faculty members and students. It enabled students to relate their academic knowledge to real-world building services and contemporary plumbing practices. At the same time, the programme provided faculty members with valuable exposure to current industry practices, modern plumbing technologies, and sustainable approaches in building services.

The knowledge and practical insights gained through the programme will contribute to effective classroom delivery, practical demonstrations, and the enrichment of teaching and learning activities in Civil Engineering.
