AIML Dept observes Environment Day with Green Tech Idea Hackathon for a sustainable future

Vidya offers its students a comprehensive education in engineering, aiming to equip them with the skills to design solutions in specialized areas. In line with this mission, the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AIML) organized a hackathon titled “Green Tech Idea Hackathon” on 12 June 2024, in celebration of Environmental Day. The event was held virtually through Google Meet.

The hackathon was designed for prospective students of the AIML department, intending to provide them with insights into the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). The primary goal was to showcase the talent of students in developing innovative solutions to various environmental issues using AI.

Students were invited to register for the hackathon and submit presentations of their ideas by June 5, World Environment Day. The event brochure outlined selected environmental issues, from which students had to choose one and develop an innovative AI-based solution. The participants were required to upload their presentations as part of the initial round.

Out of numerous entries, five students were shortlisted for the final presentation, which took place on 12 June 2024.

The final presentation commenced at 10:00 am with an outline of the hackathon, followed by a warm welcome speech by Ms. Riya P. D (Asst Prof, AIML Dept). The shortlisted students (Gopika Unnikrishnan, Anamika Shyjesh, Shahana PA, Fathima Sifna, and Udhith A U) then presented their innovative ideas.

Each presentation was excellent and informative, demonstrating the students’ creativity and technical skills. Following the presentations, the students were addressed by Dr. Sunitha C (Principal, Professor and HoD AIML Dept) who provided valuable insights and encouragement.

All participants and winners were awarded E-certificates in recognition of their efforts. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by the event coordinator, Ms Manjusha P. D. (Asst Prof, AIML Dept).
