ME Dept organizes FDP on Energy Efficiency Strategies for a Greener Planet

The Department of Mechanical Engineering conducts various sessions and workshops to Improve the understanding of energy efficiency technologies and practices.

With an  aim to promote sustainable engineering practices and energy efficiency in academia and industry, the ME Dept in association with The Institution of Engineers (India) (IE(I), Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), successfully conducted a five-day online Faculty Development Programme (FDP) during  21 to 25 April 2025. Titled “Energy Efficiency Strategies for a Greener Planet”, The programme brought together esteemed academicians and industry experts who delivered lectures on emerging topics such as renewable energy integration, hydrogen mobility, advanced fuel systems, green technologies, and decarbonization strategies. 

The inaugural session, held on 21 April 2025 marked the commencement of the knowledge-sharing event which witnessed active participation from faculty members of various engineering colleges, research scholars, and postgraduate students. Interactive sessions and discussions provided attendees with practical insights and the latest trends in sustainable energy solutions.The session commenced with a solemn prayer, followed by a warm welcome address delivered by Dr Rakesh Hari (HoD, ME Dept).The presidential address was presented by Dr Sunitha C (Principal)  highlighting the significance of sustainable energy practices in academia and industry. Mr Shankar R (FDP Co-ordinator, Asst Prof, ME Dept) introduced the Chief Guest, Dr. S H Anilkumar (Dean -PG Studies & Research, SCTCE, Trivandrum) who formally inaugurated the FDP.

The session also witnessed felicitation by Adv. P N Unnirajan (Director–Administration, VICT) The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr Ranjith E R (FDP Co-Coordinator, Asst Prof, ME Dept.) This inauguration marked the beginning of an engaging and insightful academic journey focused on innovative strategies for energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.

Ramachandran (Professor (Retired), Dept of Mechanical Engineering, GEC, Thrissur), Dr. Chithrakumar V. K. (Associate Professor, Dept of Mechanical Engineering, SCTCE, Trivandrum), Dr. U. Prakash (Professor and Head (Retired), Dept of Applied Electronics, SCTCE, Trivandrum)  Mr. Divin K  (Senior Manager (Energy), BPCL Kochi Refinery), Mr. P. Ravindra Menon (Former Projects Manager, Andritz Hydro Pvt Ltd & VA Tech EWF)  and Mr. K. R. Rajeev (Energy Technologist, Energy Management Centre, Trivandrum) served as resource persons and shared their invaluable wisdom, offering insights that bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world applications.

The FDP was convened by Dr Rakesh Hari (HoD, ME Dept), coordinated by Mr. Shankar R (Asst Prof, ME Dept.) , and co-coordinated by Mr Ranjith E R (Asst Prof, ME Dept.), all from ME Dept.The valedictory session concluded with the distribution of e-certificates to the participants who successfully completed the programme.

With this initiative, the Mechanical Engineering Department reaffirmed its commitment to advancing environmental awareness and energy-efficient technologies in engineering education.
